Story
Overpass is a free, Open Source typeface designed by Delve Fonts initially on commission for Red Hat, Inc. Development of this version of Overpass (v4.0) was made possible with sponsorship by Google Fonts and with thoughtful donations by individuals from all around the world — Thank You!
The design of Overpass is an interpretation of the well-known letterforms from the Standard Alphabets for Traffic Control Devices published by the U.S. Federal Highway Administration. Starting from those original drawing specifications, critical adjustments were made to yield optimal results for screens and in the more extreme weights, for use at display sizes.
With the v4.0 update, new Variable Fonts were introduced to the Overpass family. Overpass also has nine corresponding ‘static font’ weights ranging from Extra Light to Black with Italic counterparts for each weight. The glyph repertoire was also greatly expanded to include support for Cyrillic script, Vietnamese, Swahili, Zulu, Oceanic languages, and more.
Overpass Mono is a thoughtful, monospaced re-imagining of the Overpass proportional design. Consisting of five weights ranging from Light to Bold. The monospaced fonts are finely tuned to meet the requirements of today’s programmers.
This versatile typeface can be used for everything from body copy in print and on screen, to UI design, logos, books, posters, wayfinding signage, and environmental graphic design.
