Story
Amboy by the late Jim Parkinson is a square, Gothic style typical of Mid-20th Century showcard lettering and is comprised of three styles: Amboy Black, Amboy Inline Black, and Amboy Fill Black. All three styles have been carefully tailored to precisely fit with each other so they can be used individually or layered together for a flashy chromatic effect.
This lettering genre, also known as “Gaspipe,” can still be seen today across the United States and even in Parkinson’s hometown of Oakland, California, where they inspired him to design several variations of this form over the years. Some examples of Jim’s other such designs include his typefaces: Golden Gate Initials, Matinee, Motel, FF Hotel, and Fresno.
This latest update of Amboy increases the count of languages supported to 502, adds more alternate glyphs, and introduces some fun and useful catchwords, arrows, and symbols. Amboy is certain to light up any headline, subtitle, or drop cap. So put Amboy to work anywhere classic signage flavor fits the bill. •!•
